DHS Announces Extension of Border Restrictions of non- essential travel from Canada and Mexico

DHS will ensure that the measures taken at our borders will protect America from all threats, including threats against the health and safety of our citizens. Based on the success of the existing restrictions and the emergence of additional global COVID-19 hotspots, the Department will continue to limit non-essential travel at our land ports of entry with Canada and Mexico. “The extension protects Americans while keeping essential trade and travel flowing as we reopen the American economy,” U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Acting Secretary Chad Wolf said in a statement, without specifying an end date to the extension. The travel restrictions had already been extended several times and were set to expire on June 23, according to a related U.S. government notice. A DHS official said the latest extension would run for more 30 days.

DHS is in close contact with our Canadian and Mexican counterparts regarding this extension, and they agree on the need to extend their nonessential travel restrictions as well.
