DACA applicants face more challenges after ruling
Immigration laws in the United States are confusing and ever-changing, and those hoping to navigate the system could find themselves facing certain frustrations. This is especially true for those applying through the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals. The DACA program is supposed to provide relief for those brought to the United States at a young age, but some applicants could face additional challenges after a recent unfortunate court ruling.
More negative news for some
The DACA program was closed to new applicants during the prior presidential administration, but there have been positive changes since President Biden took office. Individuals were again able to apply for a change in immigration status through the DACA program, but a recent ruling from a federal judge could change that. The judge declared the program illegal and ordered a stop to new applications.
This ruling was devastating for many. Estimates suggest it could affect 350,000 teenagers and young adults who applied. This means they will not only be unable to receive a change in status through DACA, but it can affect school, job opportunities and more. Supporters say this ruling is unfair and unreasonable, placing deserving individuals at a continued disadvantage.
Applicants still need help
Regardless of the specific challenges of their individual case, individuals navigating the immigration system will benefit from help and support. An experienced legal ally can ensure one experiences minimal challenges at every step. An evaluation of the individual case and specific goals can provide insight regarding the most appropriate path for the individual situation.
